Grubs are the larval stage of beetles. There are many types of grubs but the ones which live in the dirt under grass are most likely Japanese Beetle, June Beetle or May Beetle. Grubs live just under grass, usually 2 inches to a few feet down, all of which depends on their species, food supplies and the time of year. Hersch’s Lawn Spray offers two different treatments to control grubs. For active grubs in the spring and fall we can apply Dylox to control them. Then in early summer to mid summer we apply a prevention treatment. This will prevent grubs for coming back. For future year we now only need to apply the prevention application.
Surface insects such as chinch bugs and bill bugs are best treated in early to mid summer. If we suffer a dry summer a second application may be needed.
